4 Unexpected Perks Of Being A Freelance Writer
You wouldn’t guess it but successful writers don’t do it for the money.
When I quit my 9 to 6 civil engineering job to become a full-time writer, my primary motivation was my love and passion for the craft.
I began by writing on various platforms. That’s where I stumbled upon the fabulous world of freelance writing.
Today, despite being a well-established writer with a lucrative freelancing business, I still feel like I’m just getting started. The world of freelance writing is filled with immense potential, and I’ve barely even scratched the surface.
In this article, I’ll break down the four perks of writing for freelancing clients that I didn’t anticipate when I first started.
If you’re a writer looking to start a career in freelancing, keep reading for some advice to help you get started. If you enjoy writing but aren’t convinced of its potential, I’m positive that this post will change your mind for good.
Before we go ahead, watch a more candid version of this story, complete with personal anecdotes here-
1. You Get a Fantastic Boss (You!)
When you start your writing career for amazing freelancing clients, you’ll notice that you no longer have to justify how you use your time.
High-paying clients usually have a result-driven compensation model where you get paid based on the work you deliver. If you have a strong work ethic and complete the tasks assigned to you on time, you get to enjoy a healthy work-life balance.
When I was writing for platforms, I was always stressed, and constantly felt the need to pump out one article after another to stay in the good books of the algorithm. As I onboarded wonderful freelance clients, I learned that I could earn much more money while working half as much compared to writing for platforms.
I no longer had to cancel on family, friends, or postpone vacations simply to compose a few more articles.
Getting great freelance clients enhanced my life significantly by giving me the time and opportunity to follow my passion — something that’s nearly impossible to do when writing for platforms.
2. You Earn as you Learn
In the second half of 2021, I began working for a startup whose long-term mission I completely resonated with. Attending daily meetings, learning their workflow, and internalizing the way they manage their business taught me a lot about how startups operate. It offered me a taste of what it’s like to run a tech business.
My friends refer to this as a “working MBA.” I won’t lie, it sure feels like it.
When you work as a freelance writer with amazing clients, you get to network with inspiring individuals and learn from them how they put their ideas into action.
Improving your skills through networking is an underappreciated benefit of freelance writing that I don’t see many people talking about.
Good clients coach you, and then pay you for it — at least, that’s how I felt while working with my amazing freelance clients.
Quite literally, people were paying for services without realizing that they were in fact teaching me new skills and cognitive outlooks while approaching a problem statement. This is the extent of the advantages that roll in from freelancing!
3. Your Ideas Get Immediate Implementation
When working with high-quality freelance clients, it’s critical to be transparent and submit your finest pieces.
You’ll not be forced to compose article after article; simply to reach a target publishing schedule.
Once you prove your worth, you’ll be welcomed into the team. And, it is here that you’ll witness the amazing opportunity to see your ideas come to life right before your eyes.
You’ll see how your ideas contribute to the company’s big success.
This is an extremely satisfying experience, and it makes you realize how much power you possess despite not actually being hired for this role.
4. You’ll Get to Welcome More Wealth in your Life
In 2022, we no longer measure a person’s wealth by their earnings. Nobody gauges their wealth by how much money they earn. Now, people assess their wealth based on how much freedom they have, as well as how content and joyful they’re in their personal lives.
After onboarding wonderful freelance clients, I discovered I had more freedom than I could have imagined.
I suddenly found that my schedule had the place to accommodate all the things that I enjoyed as a child but could no longer find time for.
But perhaps the most dramatic and life-changing part of being a freelance writer is the fact that you don’t have to work for over 8 hours a day to make a reasonable wage at the end of each month.
