4 Websites That Pay $300 for Poetry and Creative Non-Fiction
Earn money by writing about exactly what you want.
A few days ago, I made a video about four websites that pay $100 US or more per article.
I got a lot of requests in the comments asking me for how you can make money by writing poems online. This article is exactly about that.
Today, I’m sharing four websites that pay you $300 US or more for writing poetry and creative non-fiction.
If you love writing poems or you know someone who is a great poet but has never been appreciated enough, this article is just for you.
If you’d like to watch a more candid version of this list in video format, here’s the link to watch-
1. The Poetry Foundation
The Poetry Foundation is an American literary society that seeks to promote poetry and lyricism in the wider culture.
It’s completely free to submit. You can submit one poem at a time. The wait time here is 8 months (meaning, if you submit a poem today, you have to wait until eight months to receive an acceptance or rejection).
They pay for every accepted submission. Their rate is $10 per line of the poem with a minimum of $300 per published poem.
They only accept previously unpublished work. Their submission guidelines are very strict in mentioning that poems that have appeared as social media captions or anywhere else on your personal blog are not eligible to be considered.
The interesting part about the Poetry Foundation magazine is that you can submit audio and video poems as well. The same poem can also be published in multiple formats. They pay $300 as a fixed rate for all video and all audio poems. If your poem is published in multiple formats, they pay $150 for each format.
Since it’s free to submit, I think every person who loves writing poems should definitely consider submitting to the Poetry Foundation magazine.

2. AGNI
AGNI has two submission windows:
- September 1st to December 15th
- February 15th to May 30th.
AGNI pays $40 per printed page of the poem with a maximum of $300 for each poem. Aside from that, they also give you one-year free subscription to their magazine. If you are poem appears in the printed version of the magazine, they send you six free copies of the magazine by post.
Aside from poems, AGNI is open to both fiction and creative non-fiction from writers, but it does not accept anything in the following genres:
- Romance,
- Horror,
- Mystery, and
- Science-fiction.
The editors encourage submissions in the form of personal essays, think poems, prose poems, creative non-fiction, etc. For prose, the payment is $20 per printed page.
There are two ways to submit your poems. You can either send them a snail mail with your return address and postage. Postal submissions are completely free and you can send up to five poems in one envelope.
If you choose to make the submission via their online portal, then you have to pay a one-time submission fee of $3.

If you have any poem that’s not published anywhere, you can definitely consider submitting to Epoch magazine. Their submission is not online, unfortunately, but you can always send them a snail mail at their address with up to five poems in one envelope.
The submission should also contain a cover letter. There’s no submission fee and it’s completely free to submit your poems. They pay a minimum of $50 per poem. There is no maximum, and the final rate is up to the discretion of the editors.
