Build A Stellar Personal Brand While Working a 9-to-5: Here’s How

A strong personal brand can land you opportunities beyond your wildest dreams.

A personal brand can be life-changing. How so? A conversation with my friend Sunaina got me thinking. Let me take you along with me on the ride.

Sunaina has a masters degree in Computer Science. She got married to a man working in the US, and has moved to San Francisco to live with him.

She’s been searching for jobs, but hasn’t found any. A few days ago, she messaged me asking if she should go about posting content online. I said of course.

“I think tech is my expertise, and I can create content around that. Is that a good idea?”

She asked me this, and it got me thinking.

Why not tech?

If tech is her speciality, she should definitely create content around it.

“But I don’t want to become a content creator. Eventually I want a job. Will this help in any way?”

In response to Sunaina’s question, I told her a personal brand is the currency we humans can create for ourselves in today’s digital age. She might not end up being a content creator, but she can establish herself as a subject matter expert in her niche.

When she applies for jobs, having a portfolio will help. If an employer is going through two resumes with similar qualifications, and one of them has a successful personal blog in the topics relevant to the job, which candidate do you think will have the upper hand?

This isn’t true only for Sunaina, it’s true for everyone.

If you have a personal brand, you set up an unfair advantage for yourself. It can land you high-paying gigs, jobs, and speaking opportunities.

If you’re struggling with how to build your personal brand online, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. In this article, I’m sharing a detailed blueprint of how you can build your personal brand while working a 9-to-5.
