You Don’t Need These to Become A 6-Figure Online Creator
1 year from now, you can either have a career or you can have excuses: your pick.
It’s not easy making a full-time income as a creator.
Linktree’s 2022 creator economy report says only 12% of full-time creators make more than $50k/year.
Making money online isn’t rocket science that only a few talented creators can do. The internet is flooded with strategies you need to make money online. Still, most online writers feel they aren’t yet ready to start monetizing their skills.
Why so?
Everyone’s talking about things you need before targeting a 6-figure income. Be it investing in the tools, developing skills, or building solid networks.
Of course, these insights are helpful, but you don’t have to figure it out all before even stepping towards monetizing your skill online.
I’ve made a career for myself by writing online. The interesting part: I’ve never had any training in writing, and English isn’t even my first language.
If I can do it, so can you.
All you need is a knack for writing and the determination to commit to it for the long term.
Everything else will follow.
If you want to make money online but don’t think you’ve everything to hit your income goal, this article is for you.
I’m here to tell you something that no one is talking about- 3 things you DON’T need to become a 6-figure online writer.
1. A recording studio
Creating video content is the best way to monetize your writing skills. I know many writers who have incredible stories to tell, but they don’t have presence on any of the video-centered social media platforms.
Even if they want to diversify their written content into videos, they keep postponing it. They’re terrified to start their video journey because they don’t have professional recording equipment.
All I can say to them is:
“If you think growing as a video creator is hard today, it will be 10x harder 1 year later. Give yourself the early mover advantage when you still can.”
I did exactly that to start my YouTube channel, and today it’s an important part of my personal branding engine.
It pays me well over $300 per month, so I can say that it’s an up-and-coming income stream. This would never have been possible if I’d waited for an aesthetic recording studio or other equipment to make videos.
Here’s how I began with whatever limited resources I had access to, and I’ve zero regrets about it today:
- I recorded and edited my first YouTube video on my phone
- I posted it without a thumbnail or any special effects
- I kept learning about editing tools while making videos
- I collaborated with other creators
- I focused on the creative process rather than the outcome.
Most importantly, I chose to show up no matter how difficult it got at some point. It didn’t make me a millionaire overnight, but it kickstarted my journey.
If you also want to start your video content creation, it’s your sign to get started without waiting for the perfect time.
2. A well-designed website
Your audience won’t trust you because you have a beautiful website. They’ll trust you because they:
- Resonate with your words
- Find your content entertaining
- Learn something new that’s worth their time
- Get a much-needed escape in your writing that makes them feel good.
You can achieve all this without investing in building a website. Start by creating a portfolio with some of your best-published works.
- Use free platforms like Medium, LinkedIn, or even YouTube to publish
- Compile your published links on Google Drive or use free portfolio templates on Canva
- Leverage Linktree to direct your audience to your socials.
I’ve sold $3,500+ worth of courses by only having a hastily put-together Notion page as my landing page. All by earning my audience’s trust and providing them value through my content.
This shows that a website is the last thing that matters to make money online.
Here’s how you can also do it even if you don’t have a website yet:
- Leverage social media to gain credibility
- Optimize your profiles based on your niche and target audience
- Create content consistently to build a solid personal brand
- Build an email list and start your newsletter to connect with your audience on a personal level
- Develop digital products that become a steady passive income source
- Learn to market your products to ensure it reaches your audience
- Diversify your income streams as an online creator by managing multiple platforms.
I’ve followed the exact plan and made 10X more money as an online writer than at my day job.
3. A logo
I’ve been writing online since 2014 and running a successful writing business for 2.5 years. I still don’t have a logo.
I focus on creating content that captivates my readers’ attention rather than investing my time and money in designing a logo.
My online writing business is based on three pillars:
- Developing a genuine connection with my audience
- Providing client satisfaction with my writing-based services
- Building a strong online presence by showing up for my audience.
While a well-designed logo can create brand recognition, it’s not the only factor to dominate the digital landscape as a writer.
Your audience will prefer the genuine human connection over visually appealing logos.
If you can create content that resonates with people, provides value, and leaves a lasting impact on your readers, you can build a thriving online writing business.
Closing thoughts
“In the game of Online Writing, volume wins.” — Nicolas Cole, The Art and Business of Online Writing.
The more content you create, the better your chances are to become a dominant voice over the internet. There’s no point delaying your content because you think you’re not ready yet.
This is the best time to be born as a writer and make money using your skills online. Even if you don’t have a fancy title or a well-designed website, you can start making 6-figures by putting your work out there.
All you need is:
- A loyal audience
- An email list with decent engagement rates
- The mindset to keep working without immediate results
- The discipline to keep repeating until you make it big.
It’s been almost 10 years since I started writing online. I managed to stay relevant in the online writing game for so long only because I started creating content and kept doing so.
I hope this article helps you in the same way and brings you closer to the life you want to live.
